Lasith Malinga agrees to become the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians announced in a statement that they have hired former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga to serve as their bowling coach  for the 2024 IPL season.

The legendary Mumbai Indians player, who represented the team from 2009 to 2019, will be a part of the Mark Boucher-led team in 2024. Kieron Pollard, a former teammate of Malinga’s with the Mumbai Indians, is also on the coaching staff. 

Malinga also serves as the bowling coach for two addistional Mumbai Indians-owned teams, MI Cape Town of the  SA20 league in South Africa and MI New York of Major League Cricket the United States.

“It is truly an honour for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians and my journey in the OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town,” said Malinga, in a statement. “I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan.”

Since joining the Mumbai Indians in 2009, Malinga has spent nearly 13 years with the team, During that time, he has won seven trophies with the team in various leagues, including four IPL championships, two Champions League T20 titles, and one Major League Cricket championship as bowling coach. Prior to this, he was the Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowling coach.
