Amol Muzumdar has been appointed as the head coach for the India Women’s team

Renowned domestic cricket stalwart Amol Muzumdar has been selected as the newly appointed head coach of the India Women’s national team. This development was officially announced by the BCCI in a press release on Wednesday, October 25, The decision to appoint Muzumdar was made by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Sulashana Naik, Ashok Malhorta, and Jatin Paranjape, who were unanimous in their recommendation for the 48-year-old coach.

Notably, this position had remained vacant for nearly ten months following the restructuring and removal of Ramesh Powar.

Muzumdar boasts a remarkable domestic cricket career, amassing over 11,000 runs over two decades, including  30 centuries. He achieved several Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai and later represented Assam and Andra Pradesh. with his maturity and strategic acumen, a transition into coaching was a natural step for Muzumdar once he concluded his playing career.

His Coaching journey commenced as the batting coach for India’s U19 and U23 teams, followed by a role as the batting consultant for the Netherlands men’s team. Subsequently, he spent multiple seasons as the batting coach for the Rajasthan in the IPL. During South Africa’s recent tour of India, Muzumdar served as the batting consultant for the Proteas.

BCCI President Roger Binny expressed great enthusiasm about the appointment of the new head coach. He stated, “I welcome the appointment of Mr. Amol Muzumdar as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I am confident that under his leadership, the team will continue to make progress and perform effectively in various formats of the game. The team has consistently delivered impressive performances in bilateral and multi-nation events, and I am certain our players will benefit significantly under Mr. Muzumdar’s guidance and strategic plan.”

Responding to his appointment, Muzumdar acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with the role. He stated, “I am deeply honored and privileged to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for placing their trust in me and believing in my vision and roadmap for Team India. This is a huge responsibility, and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel. The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled in the period. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed.”
