For the upcoming IPL season in 20204, the Rajasthan Royals have hired former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond as their assistant and fast bowling coach.
Between 2001 and 2009, Bond, an express pace bowler in his day, participated in 18 test matches for New Zealand, fron 2012 to 2015 Bond also coached the Kiwi’s bowling unit. He was a member of the team that advanced to the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup championship game. Bond Also won four IPL from 2015 to 2023. Many of the current generation of fast bowlers, including Trent Boul, Mitchell McClenahghan ang Jasprit Bumrahm are thought to have received training and guidance for the legendary Bond.
Bond will discover Boult in the Royals’ locker room as well, and he will undoubtedly benefit the team’s young and promising fast bowlers, icluding Prasidh Krishna, Navdeep Sini, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Sen, Obed McCoy, KM Asif, and Kuldip Yadav.
In a statement introducing Bond and the team, Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said: “Shane is one of the best fast bowlers in modern cricket, and brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge have mentored some of the best in the business. He has worked in India and the IPL for a while, and he is familiar with the procedures that take place within the franchise ecosystem.
“He is someone who has a keen eye for helping the best become even better and we are delighted to welcome him to the franchise, and look forward to seeing the impact he can make towards moulding us into a title-winning team.”
Days after it was announce that he would be leaving the Mumbai Indians team, Shane Bond himself stated his feelings after signing the Rpyals: “I’m delighted to be joining the Royals. I’m thrilled to be a part of this franchise’s forward-thinking vision and commitment to success. It will be fantastic to collaborate with the bowling team because they are such a great mix of youth and experience.
The Royals also expressed their gratitude to Lasith Malinga, the departing candidate, who joined the Mumbai Indians as their fast bowling coach after leaving the Royals.
