Reece topley won’t be competing in the 2023 world cup

Reece Topley, a left-arm pacer for England, will not playing in the World Cup in India because of a fractured index finger. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement saying that “a replacement will be announced in due course.”

In the game against South Africa on Saturday in Mumbai, the injury happened when Topley attempted to stop the ball of his own bowling and eventually left the field frustrated. Topley, however, returned in the innings to take two more wickets despite having his fingers taped up.

However, scans now made clear the severity of the injury, disqualifying him from the competition. Jofra Archer, who is also recovering from an injury and traveling with the team in India, has already been disqualifies by head coach Matthew Mott as a replacement.

For Topley, whose career has been littered with numerous blows. the injury is the most recent in a long list of unfortunate events. Prior to the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, Topley unexpectedly injusred his ligament when he tripped over an advertisement hoarding while practicing catching close to the boundary.

He had a series of stress fractures in his back before that, which eventually required surgery. After that, he had a difficult recovery before becoming a cruscial component of Englannd’s white-ball setup.

Despite missing a game prior to this final defeat, Topley picked up 8 wickets during the current World Cup and was England’s leading wicket-taker.
