For the ongoing 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India, Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera have been called up to the Sri Lankan Team as traveling reserves. The management of the team has made the choice to deal with potential illnesses or injuries could interfere with upcoming contests.
Before the tournament, when star all-rounder Wanindu Hasasranga was disqualified from the championship game, injuries has already plagued the Lankan team. Maheesh Theekshana, a fellow spipnner, missed the World Cup’s opening match.
The most recent casualties on the list are pacer Matheesha Pathirana and captain Dasun Shanaka, with the latter already having been eliminated from the competition. Chamika Karunaratne has officially taken Shanaka’s place in the team.
The team is anticipating welcoming Mathews and Chameera on Friday (October 20), the day before their upcoming match in Lucknow against the Netherlands. Chameera, who was initially ruled out of the competition due to a shoulder injury, has reportedly recovered completely. As Sri Lanka looks for its first victory of the tournament, Chameera’s addition will unquestionably strengthen the team’s attack given the team’s concerns in the bowling department.
