The international cricket career of Sornnarin Tippoch is over

Sornnarin Tippoch, a former captain of Thailand, announced her retirement from international cricket on October 18, 2023 in Bangkok, capping a nearly 16-year playing career. At the massive Australian event in 2020, Tippoch led Thailand to their first-ever T20 World Cup apperance.

“Today, I formally announce my retirement from playing cricket. Tippoch stated in her retirement statement, “I am incredibly honored and fortunate to have had the opportunity to wear the Thailand colors with pride and passion.

Tippoc made her international debut for Thailand in 2008, a year in which the national women’s team was not recognized. Off-spinner all-rounder, age 37, has participated in 75 T20 internationals (of which she has captained in 39), as well as 9 ODIs. She was in charge when Thailand Women broke Australia’s mark for the most consecutive victories in women’s T20 internationals (17), a streak that spanned from July 2018 to August 2019.

Tippoch’s final game for Thailand was against Sri Lanka in the quarterfinal of the recently finished 19th Asian Games.

“First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the cricket community. Mr. Mohideed Kader, all the coaches who have guided me along the way, and the Cricket Association of Thailand for assisting me in realizing my dream of representing Thailand as an athlete and bringing honor to my home nation and my family.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to all of my teammates-past and present- who supported me throughout my 16-year career. We have persevered through challenging situations and emerged victorious, both in sport and in life, after fighting through them. Each and every one of you holds a special place in my heart, and I am grateful to have shared the field with you all.

“Leading my team and nation to the World cup in Australia is the greatest accomplishment of my career. Even though we occasionally had trouble getting started, it was still a fantastic experience that will always be clear and vivid in my heart and mind, she continued.

Tippoch, who has already started her tenure as the Development Coach at the Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT), wants to mentor the upcoming Thailand Women athletes in her capacity as a professional coach.

“As a coach and mentor, I will now contribute to Thailand’s cricket development. I’m excited to share my experiences in order to motivate the upcoming generation of Thai cricket players,” she said in closing.
